WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE!
Nuclear energy has become an important subject in recent decades and there has been increasing use of nuclear energy around the globe. In fact, despite the first nuclear power plants only opening in the 1950's, there are now over 430 commercial nuclear power stations operating in 31 countries worldwide (World Nuclear Association, 2014). Collectively, these generating stations provide approximately 11% of the world's energy supply, while releasing barely any carbon dioxide into the atmosphere (World Nuclear Association, 2014). The benefits and issues of using nuclear energy can be debated however, with public concern being high. Therefore, the aim of this website will be to examine the different environmental and social impacts as well as proposed mitigation measures of a new nuclear power plant in Canada.
The present website, through its various Head-Tabs and Sub-Tabs, will guide you through the environmental assessment of a new nuclear project offered by Ontario Power Generation inc.: The New Darlington Nuclear Power Plant Project.
Please refer to the New Nuclear Darlington Project Environmental Impact Statement, and the World Nuclear Association's Website for more information.
