Ontario Power Generation used various methods of public involvement to ensure the population was informed about the project and that they had the opportunity to voice their views and concerns. The public involvement began in September 2006 and was maintained until May 2009.

Ontario Power Generation used various methods of public involvement to ensure the population was informed about the project and that they had the opportunity to voice their views and concerns. The public involvement began in September 2006 and was maintained until May 2009.
What methods were used to involve the people?
- Initial notifications announcing the application of the project in local newspapers (September 2006)
- Key stakeholders were notified and a program was established to recieve input and feedback from them
- Many community information sessions were held in many different areas
- Various project update letters were sent
- Meetings with Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments were made
- Committees were established
- Many informative newsletters and articles were distributed to over 95,000 neighboring residents in the Clarington municipality and Oshawa city
- Invitations to Public Consultation programs were sent out
- Proximal neighbors were surveyed
- Informative presentations were given
- Trade shows with information booths and kiosks were held
- Workshops where EA specialists could share knowledge on different fields relevant to the project were held
- Project reference files were distributed to public libraries for residents to consult
- OPG attended a number of community events to ensure high volumes of people were notified
- A publically accessible community kiosk was set up as a permanent information source
- All questions and comments raised throughout the duration were recorded
- A toll-free information telephone line was set up: (1-866-487-6006)
- The project's website was readily available for consultation
- A contact email adress was created to easily communicate with the EA team
- Factual and balanced media coverage was made
- Radio advertisements were made for invitations to community information sessions
